Post subject:  Webshops with cool design - do they exist?

Hi everyone,

I have a task in school concerning webshops and would really like to show some good examples. Most webshops that I've been looking at have really boring design.
So I was just wondering if everyone could put up a link of a really cool webshop they visited lately?

Thanks!!

I second the apple site. That's an amazing place.

http://2advanced.com/ I believe used to have some cool stuff. But that is neither here nor there.

I have studied the Psychology of website design and website behavior. If you want to know the hard truth, you can spend $5 million dollars building a "really cool site". But the bottom line is that when a user is on your site and they are looking for something the mindset equation is something like: "Is the amount of time it will take me to find what I am looking for on this site worth the value I will receive by finding it?"

In other words, you can have the coolest looking/most advanced/most features/etc site in the world, but if a user is looking for something and finds it on the first page of another site, your site is out of the game.

Go to http://www.designfloat.com . It's like digg but for the design community. Searching through their list of most popular stuff, one can usually find a list of good site designs.

I would be careful in thinking most popular = good site designs.

A good design is one that makes sure the purpose of the site is fulfilled. For an e-commerce site that's often selling stuff. And/or branding. So only looking at how a site looks is way too narrow. Maybe for product A a very slick, clean design would be the best. For product B a cheap-looking, busy design would work best. It all depends on many factors.

Yep, any users can just easily leave your site in just a click if they don't quickly find what they're looking for. So better make your site friendly and simple. 8)
