Re: WTH?
Give people something of value and you'll do what no PR campaign can do though. Sure, to some degree. Equally true, you could have the greatest widget in the world and if no one knows it exists, it is effectively useless. There is an old adage that goes something like: "It's not what you know,...

Re: WTH?
Ha...I've thought about that...although 6000 is pretty far...my family is scattered all across Canada so I wouldn't really be able to escape the giftmas season. :P Maybe I should move somewhere in the South Pacific...somewhere warm...so I don't even think about cold and Christmas...work from my lap...

Want to tackle a quick CD cover design for free?
Anyone interested in designing a CD cover for free in exchange for a testimonial/reference for your portfolio? The CD is for classical music, and there's a vintage black and white photo that must be incorporated into the cover. The "client" is in my family and is pretty easy to please. But...

You put it very nicely, JCart: a programmer's time is better spent programming.
Thanks for your response. Your comments solidify what I've been thinking exactly.

Re: Two Passive Income Sources You Probably Never Thought Of
This is an interesting thread. I wasn't expecting to read about farming here, but you're completely right. If you've got the land, there is money to be made from it. In a way, you could draw a parallel between farming and the web. If you own land, it's like owning a website that's primed and ready t...

I saw this film a couple of years ago. It's eye-opening and entertaining. Highly recommended.

Best statement of 2008! 8O Hehe, see, now I'm confused, because that smilie is kind of a weird one... 8O Look at that smilie right there. He's not happy. And he's not sad. What is he? What does he mean exactly? He looks a bit shocked, but other than that is he completely without emotion?? (Um, inse...

Re: Would you hire someone to write your FAQs/web content?
Thanks for your response, Syntac. I'm not sure whether I was clear enough in my original post. Basically, my question is whether any of you would consider hiring a writer like me in any circumstance. Example: You're doing web design and the client wants you to write the website's content as well. Yo...

Thats a lot of smilies... :P :D :) :| :( ;) Happy faces make the world a better place! Smilies are ridiculous...but they're important at the same time. They totally change the tone and let the reader know where the writer is coming from. I wish we had smilies in real life. Life would be simpler!

No - that's an axiom :) A statement based on practice :P "A woman who writes about spelling mistakes in a software developer forum during the winter is definitely a writer" :) PS: The oposite my be not true ;) Hehe, but why does the winter matter? If it was summer would you think differen...

Re: WTH?
Hehe, I shouldn't be too quick to judge, though. PCSpectra was kind enough to PM me just now to let me know that I had a spelling error in my own signature. (Thanks for not publicly humiliating me, PCSpectra!) After I got over my mortification, it just goes to show that we can all be morons at one t...

Re: WTH?
At least they 'gaurantee' 24x7 support ... Arg! Things like this drive me nuts. My web hosting company's service went down recently, so I called them. While on hold, I happened to notice that there was a giant typo in a prominent place on their front page. The typo was in the sentence that claimed ...

Would you hire someone to write your FAQs/web content?
I'm a professional web writer, but I'm starting to focus on writing web content, FAQs, etc for developers. A lot of developers dislike (read: hate!) writing the content, FAQs, about pages, etc. for their sites and web apps. I've also come across some amazing apps that could just use a quick once-ove...
